John Pascal Van Houden, often referred to as JP, is a Hollander whose life took a dramatic turn when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) in 2000. Despite this, he has remained a beacon of resilience and positivity, dedicating his life to giving back to the community.
In the summer of 1999, JP inhaled a cloud of pesticide meant to kill ants. Three months later, he began experiencing the first symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease.
Despite the setback, JP maintained his positive drive and unwavering attitude. He channeled his indomitable spirit into creating initiatives that benefit the community, particularly those affected by Parkinson’s Disease.
The single, urgent goal of Beyond Parkinson’s Foundation is to eliminate Parkinson’s Disease in our lifetime.
You can support the foundation by making a donation, which will help in the efforts to eliminate Parkinson’s Disease. Donate and get involved.
California Inclusive Sailing (CIS) is an organization co-founded by JP that aims to make outdoor recreation, particularly sailing, accessible to individuals of all abilities. The organization offers transformative sailing experiences that promote mental and physical well-being.
CIS aligns with JP’s philosophy by using engaging activities like sailing to relax the brain and body, thus promoting overall well-being.
About four years ago, JP reduced his intake of more than eight different medications to only three different pills. He also incorporated “magic water” into his regimen, exemplifying his innovative spirit and relentless pursuit of a healthier life.
You can make a difference by getting involved in the activities and initiatives of Beyond Parkinson’s Foundation and California Inclusive Sailing. Donations, volunteering, and spreading awareness are some ways to contribute.
